In Reading AMP 7 we use a variety of strategies to increase our reading comprehension. Strategies include questioning, summarizing, inferencing, visualizing, predicting, and identifying text structure. Most reading material is nonfiction, to prepare students for the increasing academic workload in this area. The topics of the texts vary, some examples being space travel, animal migrations, and dramatic rescue stories. This class is designed for students not quite scoring at expected grade level on standardized tests, and teaches the skills and vocabulary necessary to close their achievement gap and be successful, critical readers.
