Young Sil Kim Allgor

Kim began teaching in 1984 in Springfield, Massachusetts as an interpreter as well as a teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing. She moved to Hastings, Minnesota in 1987 with her family.  She started to substitute with the Intermediate School District 917 (Dakota County/southern metro) and River Valley Cooperative with nine- member districts.  She taught in Red Wing School District in 1989 and moved to St Paul Public School as an Itinerant Deaf/Hard of Hearing teacher in 2001 working with students in pre-k to 12th grade. She has been with Washington Technology Magnet Secondary School for the past five years. This is her 35th year of teaching.

When Kim not at school, you can find her outside or at home reading. In the summer, she enjoys traveling in and out of the country, biking and running. In the winter you can find her out on the ski slopes or with her gym family.  She also enjoys spending time supporting her students in their extra-curricular activities.

Kim lives in Cottage Grove. She has two grown daughters. One of her daughters works with new immigrants, and the other works as an audiologist in Edina. Both of the live close to her. Kim is adopted from South Korea to Minnesota.  Her biological family still lives in South Korea whom she visits periodically.

Kim loves teaching as an itinerant Deaf/Hard of Hearing at Washington Technology Magnet Secondary School. She feels she has the best of both worlds – itinerant traveling teacher but assigned to one school.  She believes all students have a right to a good education. She believes her students are the best of all students. She is greatful to be teaching and making a difference in her student’s lives.
