    In the PLTW Middle School Introduction to Computer Science Course students learn computer skills while practicing critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration. Classes are divided into two Units-   

     

    Introduction to Computer Science 1

    In this unit, students discover the principles of this fast-growing field. They develop computer science knowledge and skills by focusing on creativity and an iterative design process as they create their own basic apps using MIT App Inventor®.

     

    Introduction to Computer Science 2

    In ICS 2, students continue to explore the fundamentals of the stimulating career path of computer science. They venture into text-based programming through Python and develop an app to crowd-source and analyze data on a topic of their interest.

     

     

    Grade 6 Keyboarding and Intro to Computer Applications

     

    Grade 6 Students learn keyboarding and basic computer applications as well as how to explore the internet. Students learn to use Google Docs, Slides and Satellite, Microsoft Office Word and Excel, Online Libraries, and virtual tours. Students also learn to safely access the internet for research, exploration and creation.

     

    510 Computer Applications

     

    Middle School students in grades 6-8 learn advanced computer skills through website design, computer game design, app design, beginning coding, and media editing including audio and digital image editing. Platforms covered include Sketchnation, Gimp, MIT App Inventor, Audacity, HTML, CSS, Java Script, PencilCode- CoffeeScript, and Scratch.
