Health
- Elementary School (K-5)
- Health is taught by a health specialist or licensed classroom teacher
- Health instruction must be given each year or by district-determined grade bands
- Middle School (6-8)
- Health is taught by a licensed health educator
- Health instruction must be given each year or by district-determined grade bands
- For optimum: one semester-long health course in grades 6 and 8
- For minimum: two quarter-long (18 weeks on A/B schedule) OR one semester health course in 6, 7, or 8.
- High School (9-12)
- Health is taught by a licensed health educator
- Health is a one-semester, two credit graduation requirement
Physical Education
- PE is taught by a licensed physical education teacher
- Elementary School (K-5)
- Recommended participation is 30 minutes daily (150 minutes/week)
- Foundation for movement competency achieved through a focus on fundamental motor skills.
- Middle School (6-8)
- Recommended participation is 45 minutes daily (225 minutes/week)
- Use of varied activities, such as dance and fitness activities, to keep students interested in regular physical activity.
- High School (9-12)
- Recommended participation is 45 minutes daily (225 minutes/week)
- Instructional practice commensurate with developmentally appropriate physical, cognitive, and social needs of all students. Focus continue to shift to individual choice.
