2022-23 Program Descriptions

  • Grades 5-8 Summer Quest

    Students explore high interest STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) topics. All students are assigned three core classes (Literacy, Math, Leadership) and self-select two electives. Elective choices include: Agriculture/Cooking, Coding, Physical Education, Art/Design, Lego Robotics, Theater Arts, Piano, Guitar, Band/Orchestra, Digital Music and Project Scientist for Girls. Students take a field trip to Northern Star Base Camp for team building and fun.

    Instrumental music classes are for students who are interested in beginning or continuing instrument instruction. Instruments and method books are provided (students should bring their Standard of Excellence book if they have one).


    Project Scientist for Girls: Students are immersed in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) learning taught by women educators. Experience includes exciting hands-on experiments, field trips and daily interactions with female STEM role models from a variety of professional fields. 

    Grades 3-8 E-STEM (Environmental Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
    Students experience hands-on activities and field trips with a focus on Environmental Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). Classes include Engineering, Coding, Construction, Sports, Environmental Studies, and Cooking. This program is sponsored by 3M and includes multiple STEM-themed field trips. 

    Grades K-8 CDF Freedom Schools
    Freedom Schools strengthens literacy skills through a researched-based Integrated Reading Curriculum that features books, materials and projects that represent the heritages and experiences of our scholars. Essential features include Hero Elementary K-2; Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math instruction; Parent and Family Empowerment Events; Community Engagement; Pathways to Careers; Health and Wellness; Social Action; and Field Trips. Scholars see themselves in our high quality Servant Leader Educators and community leader mentors/role models. This program is developed in collaboration with the Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood.
