What Do Mentors Do?
-
Mentors provide valuable collaborative experiences for colleagues that are new to Saint Paul Public Schools in order to ensure all educators are equipped with the tools and mindset to equitably support the diverse needs of our community.
Mentors:
- Model best practices that are aligned with research-based and district-adopted professional standards
- Focus initial educators’ instructional/professional planning on learner needs and achievement
- Pose questions that promote analysis of practice
- Listen actively to as the mentee analyzes, reflects, and strategizes about their practice
- Provide specific feedback that informs practice
- Coach mentees to be reflective practitioners
- Facilitate and model self-directed, career-long learning
- Deliberate about strategies for managing dilemmas
- Offer support and guidance as a colleague and confidant
- Advocate for the needs of mentees
- Collaborate with mentees
- Provide educational and professional resources
