Mentors

  • Mentors provide valuable collaborative experiences to colleagues that are new to Saint Paul Public Schools. Activities are differentiated to meet the needs of colleagues who are just entering the education profession or who are coming to Saint Paul Public Schools with experience.

    Full-Year Mentorship

    • Educators hired before December 1 will participate in a full year of mentorship.
    • At least 20 hours outside of the school contract day to complete mentoring activities.
    • Mentors will receive a stipend of $1000* to be paid at the end of the school year.
      • *In an effort to recruit mentors of color, full-year BIPOC mentors will receive an additional $200.
      • The increased stipends in future school years are contingent upon grants being renewed and awarded to SPPS.
    • Two collaboration reports will be completed by the mentor with the mentee documenting collaborative work.
    • Mentors will be awarded 20 clock-hours for successful completion of the program.
    • Mentors receive five hours of training with additional opportunities throughout the school year.

    Half-Year Mentorship (year 1 and carryover)

    • Educators hired after December 1 will participate in a half year of mentorship.
    • At least 10 hours outside of the school contract day to complete mentoring activities.
    • Mentors will receive a stipend of $500 to be paid at the end of the school year.
      • *In an effort to recruit mentors of color, full-year BIPOC mentors will receive an additional $100.
      • The increased stipends in future school years are contingent upon grants being renewed and awarded to SPPS.
    • One collaboration report will be completed by the mentor with the mentee documenting collaborative work.
    • Mentors will be awarded 10 clock-hours for successful completion of the program.
    • Mentors receive 3.5 hours of training with additional opportunities throughout the school year.

    Each spring, a Mentor Mentee Program Survey is conducted to gain valuable information about the strengths and challenges of the Mentor Mentee Program. Surveys are emailed to both mentors and mentees in the Mentor Mentee Program to solicit feedback.
