Payroll Deduction Information

  • The payroll schedule provides up to date information related to when certain deductions are withheld from paychecks. 

     

    Union Dues - For teachers, EAs, and School/Community Professionals, union dues are taken each payroll.  For all other bargaining groups, union dues are taken once per month. (Refer to the payroll schedule for which payday of the month dues will be taken.)  The amount of your union dues is determined by the respective union.

    Benefits/Insurance Deductions - Generally insurance deductions are taken twice a month, however because may employees are paid over 10 months and receive 12 months of coverage, there are variations when deductions are or are not taken.  10 month employees who do not receive regular pay during the summer months have their portion of the insurance premiums for deducted from January through June each year to cover July - Sept premiums.  Specific benefit information and forms are available on the Benefits Webpage.

    TSA Deductions - Employees can participate in a 403(b) or 457 tax sheltered account.  Go to the separate TSA Webpage for additional information and forms related to 403(b) and 457 plans, including employer match eligibility.

    Wage Garnishments - Wage garnishments including child support and tax levies are deducted according to the specific garnishment order.  Contact payroll@spps.org if you have specific questions related to a wage garnishment. 

    Summer Pay / 26 Pay - 10 Month employees may elect to have a portion of their paychecks deducted during the school year and paid to them over the summer.  Teachers should use the 26 pay form and EAs and TAs should use the Summer Pay form available on the "Pay Options" page of the payroll website.

    Direct Deposit - Employees may elect to have specific amounts from their paycheck go to multiple checking or savings account or they can have the entire net pay go into an account.  Direct deposit is extremely reliabile and secure.  With direct deposit, you pay is automatically deposited to your account(s) on payday.  Update your direct deposit information through Employee Self Service, or complete the direct deposit form available on the "Pay Options" page of the payroll website.

    PERA is a retirement plan for public employees in Minnesota.  Membership is mandatory for most employees who are not licened teachers.  PERA deductions are at 6.5% of the employee’s gross pay and the District matches at 7.5% effective 01/01/15 and continuing through 2018.  The contribution amounts are forwarded to PERA each payday and invested for you.   If you have questions regarding your PERA balance, withdrawing funds, or changing beneficiaries, please contact PERA directly at 1(800) 652-9026 or check out their website at www.mnpera.org.

    SPTRFA is a retirement plan for teachers and other licensed administrators in St Paul Public Schools.  SPTRFA deductions are at 7.5% of the employee’s gross pay and the District matches at 12.430% effective 7/1/2019.  The contribution amounts are forwarded to SPTRFA each payday and invested for you.  If you have questions regarding your SPTRFA balance, withdrawing funds, or changing beneficiaries, please contact SPTRA directly at (651) 642-2550 or check out their website at www.sptrfa.org.
