Grant Opportunities

  • Looking to fund your wellness work but not sure where to go?  Various organizations offer nutrition and/or physical activity grants, as well as community grants. Pay attention to deadlines and be sure to check first with the SPPS Office for Grants when considering applying, as many grants require approval from the School Board.  Grant opportunities can arise throughout the year, so be sure to check back regularly.

    • Billion Mile Race: Billion Mile Race is challenging America's schools to walk and run a billion miles this year.  Participation is free but they are also offering microgrants of up to $500 for new and existing school running/walking clubs.  Register and complete an application by November 20, 2015. Added consideration given to schools enrolled in Let's Move! Active Schools.

    • University of Minnesota Schoolyard Garden Grant: Funds are available for designing and starting a new school garden or enhancing or better utilizing an established one. Applicants must apply in teams of 2-5 people, one of whom must be a science teacher. Preference given to participants of the University's summer professional development program, who received training on the use of school gardens as resources for science teachers.

    • Good Sports: Have an organized sport or fitness program (like a running club) that needs some help with equipment? Good sports provides equipment and footware/apparel grants on a rolling basis throughout the year.

There is an established protocol in applying for grants, so be sure to communicate your intentions with the Grants Department. Keep up with grants by subscriping to the SPPS Grants Facebook page, as well as joining the Grants group in Schoology.
