On July 1, 2017, Dr. Joe Gothard became superintendent of Saint Paul Public Schools.

Dr. Gothard succeeded Dr. John Thein, who in 2016 was named the interim superintendent to succeed Valeria Silva.

Rev. E. D. Neill was chosen as the secretary and treasurer of SPPS upon the organization of the board in 1856. After he resigned in March 1860, Rev. John Mattocks was named his successor, and continued to act as secretary and superintendent until September 1872.
