Fall Athletics Wrap-Up
Central High School
Central’s football team had seven wins - more than any other SPPS school - and placed second behind undefeated Two Rivers in conference. They won a section playoff game, 52-8 over Academy Force. The Minutemen placed five players on All-District - Lavonte Cox, Kurohn Davis, Alex Dreher, Allen Lankford, Jr., and Fela McConnell.
Boys soccer went undefeated in conference and participated in the Saint Paul Cup at Allianz Field against Highland Park. Senior Rhys Tidwell was namde First Team All-State. Tidwell, Alex Cernea, Eli Moseman, Henry Ogg and Tommy Voshell were named All-Conference. Minutemen head coach David Albornoz was named Conference Coach of the Year.
Girls soccer was a perfect 6-0 in conference and made sectionals. Five players made All-Conference - Szofia England, Lennon Folstad, Vita Hochuli, Hannah Klubberud and Maia Oberg.
Girls volleyball went 6-0 to win the conference. Six players made All-Conference - Maylena Carter, Clare Freberg, Sadie Peterson, Rane Roste, Kate Tronstad and Eleanor Weeks. Anne Branstad was Co Coach of the Year in the conference.
Girls swimming/diving was 4-0 in conference and also won the conference tournament. Central finished second in sectionals. Two relay teams qualified for state, plus Lauren Restad in the 100 Breaststroke. Eleven athletes earned All-Conference - Lila Charlesworth, Aria Chermak, Violet Dady, Claire Grady, Turin Johnson, Cecily Jones, Greer Jones, Ella Neal, Lauren Restad, Grace Robertson and Lila Mae Teske. Sandy Whitaker was the conference’s Coach of the Year.
Ani Holland was named All-Conference in girls tennis.
Girls cross country runners Katie Norton-Bower, Teagan O’Keefe, Lillian Schauer, Pria Stauning and Halina Tompkins were named All-Conference.
Como Park Senior High School
The Cougars finished 11th in the boys cross country Class AA State Tournament. Mason Aarness finished 22nd, while ninth grader Arthur Anderson and Hazel Small also finished in the top 100. Como Park was second in Section 4AA to advance to state. Aarness was the top runner at the conference meet. Tim Kersey was named conference Coach of the Year.
Four Como football players were All-District - Mathew Corniea, Luke Glad, William Stiles and Thierry Tetivi.
Boys soccer players Takato Muramatsu, Baw Reh and Ku Reh were named All-Conference.
Four girls soccer players were All-Conference - Kora Becker, Say Say Hinton, Ava Lopez and ninth grader Nina Modisett.
Girls volleyball won two sectional games, just missing the State Tournament. Mairin Blank, Julie Pletch, Greta Seppanen and Ellery Tenneson earned All-Conference.
Girls swimming/diving (collab team with Johnson) finished sixth in sectionals. Aleia Lueck finished fourth in state in two events. She joined Cougars teammates Mia Trifilette Simons, Maddy Schilling, Alice Wagner-Hemsted and Sophie Wagner on the All-Conference team.
Sofia Gonzalez, Ashley Hartwich and Angie Jimenez-Valerio were All-Conference in girls tennis. Poem Vang was Co Coach of the Year.
Girls cross country was fourth in sectionals. Margaret Spray and Lu Beckman qualified for State. Spray was All-Conference. Beckman is just a seventh grader (from Murray Middle)!
Harding High School
Harding/Humboldt football team got to play at TCO Performance Center - practice home of the Vikings - against Two Rivers. Nate Chea made All-District.
Henry Brandt, Edward Gronau and Eric Walsh made the boys cross country All-Conference team.
Boys soccer player Fnu Yangdaonang earned Second Team All-State. Yangdaonang and Baeh Moo were named All-Conference.
Girls volleyball players Evangline Vang Soua (a ninth grader) and Adrianna Yang were All-Conference.
Girls tennis players Vivian Her and Tiffany Tran parcticipated in the State Tournament in doubles. That duo was joined by Latrice Jondro and Serenity Vang on the All-Conference team. Michelle Zing was conference Co Coach of the Year.
Highland Park Senior High School
Girls cross country won sectionals and finished second in the Class AA State Tournament. Grace Lewis-Mosher and Luca Scorzelli finished in the top 10 at State, after finishing 1-2 in sectionals. Lewis-Mosher, Scorzelli, Ingrid Haaland, Ellie Moore, Zoe Moore and Samantha Palm were All-Confernece.
Mason Deegan finished 19th in the boys cross country Class AA State Tournament. Jack Douglas was 80th. The boys also finished third in the Section 3AA Tournament. Deegan, Douglas, Cooper Foss, Tim Tzeutschler and ninth grader Noah Waln made the All-Conference team.
Football advanced to sectionals, losing to Tartan. Three players earned All-District - Isaac Johnson, Melvin Mensah and Benjamin Waud.
Boys soccer participated in the Saint Paul Cup at Allianz Field, playing Central. The Scots won a sectional game against Richfield. Tenzing Walker was named First Team All-State. Walker was joined on the All-Conference team by Willy Lopez, Caiden Romo and Ayub Suleiman.
Girls soccer was 5-1 in conference and finished second. Five players were All-Conference - Claire Acker, Ava Arredondo, Greta Goodspeed, Grace Little and Ellery Merriam. Chris Steenberg was the conference’s Coach of the Year.
Girls volleyball went 5-1 in conference to finish second. Five players earned All-Conference - Alanna Allen, Molly Hanley, Alyssa Ramos, Kate Reubish and James Steinbach. Jamie Anderson was Co Coach of the Year in the conference.
Girls tennis was a perfect 6-0 to win the conference. Anna Brock, Jillian Evans, Mackenzie Malek and Alice Verbrugge were All-Conference.
Humboldt High School
Harding/Humboldt football team got to play at TCO Performance Center - practice home of the Vikings - against Two Rivers. Albert Wellington was All-District.
Boys cross country finished sixth in the Section 3AA Tournament. Bennett Vaughn-Fier and Tamarit Wendimu were All-Conference.
Boys soccer player Than Soe was First-Team All-State. Soe and Blue Gay Htoo were named All-Conference.
Girls soccer won a sectional game. Anja Gundal was named All-Conference and second Team All-State.
Girls volleyball won a sectional game against Hiawatha. Liv Fiebich and Annika Lofgren were All-Conference.
Margaret Fear earned the Roger Bosveld Spirit Award in girls swimming and diving.
Girls tennis players New Tar and Twar Meh were on the All-Conference team.
Girls cross country runners Willa Campion and Aria Kulseth were All-Conference.
Johnson Senior High School
Adapted Soccer Team won the MSHSL Consolation Championship. The Govs scored in the final minute for the win. Senior James Brown was also selected into the All-State Tournament Team.
Football won a sectional game against Como before losing to Hill-Murray. Bobby Arnold, Isaiah Henderson, Dae’Majeun Henderson-Moore, Justice Moody and Javion Saunders were All-District.
Boys soccer players Chris Lopez and Alex Themmes were named All-Conference.
Girls soccer players Dao Sangwang and Allyson Vue were All-Conference.
Girls cross country coach Tarah Koch was named Conference Coach of the Year.
Washington Technology Magnet School
Boys soccer won sectionals and advanced to the State Tournament, playing St. Paul Academy in the quarterfinals. Tenth grader Awal Wako was named Second Team All-State. Wako was joined on the All-Conference team by Sa Kwa Min.
Girls volleyball won a sectional game against Higher Ground. Ariel Fang was All-Conference.
Girls soccer players Ana Benitez Garcia (an eighth grader) and Ruby Gonzalez Maldonoado were named All-Conference.
Nancy Hang and Esmeralda Xiong were named All-Conference in girls tennis.
