Department of Theatre Arts

  • HPSH Theatre provides opportunities for ALL HPSH students to explore their own creativity and develop an understanding of performing arts. Classes include Intro to Theatre, Beginning Acting, Intermediate Acting, Media Arts and Musical Theatre. Field trips to see professional theatre and participation in our own theatre department are additional options. Our theatre department produces at least 4 productions each year including a fall show, student directed one act plays, a spring musical, and a spring show.

See THEATRE under activities for dates.

Our theatre classes are taught by Nancy Michael, who holds a bachelors degree in acting/directing and a masters degree in curriculum and instruction and comes to HPSH with decades of experience directing creating theatre classes for young people. Before coming to Highland, Nancy was the first education director at SteppingStone Theatre in St Paul and developed a nationally recognized perfroming arts program with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Minneapolis.

Nancy's husband, Stephen Michael designs our sets and leads student crews through building and painting. Stephen has a BFA in art and is a nationally recognized scenic artist.
