Hello Students and Famlies,

 

My name is Johanna Skaar, and I am a Counselor for Grade 9 at Highland.  Ninth graders are awesome because they are new on the scene and each new class has a personality of its own.  Throughout the year I work with students through whole class instruction, small groups focused around specific topics, and individually.  Counselors serve students in three main areas- academic goal-setting and planning, social-emotional development and wellbeing, and career and college planning.  I love being a Highland Park Scot and you will too!

 

Ms. Skaar graduated from Adams State University with an M.S. in School Counseling in 2013 and from North Dakota State Univeristy with a B.S. in Elementary Education in 2005.  She worked as a classroom teacher for three years for Wildrose-Alamo Schools in Wildrose, ND and at Minturn Middle School in Minturn, CO. She then worked for the Minnesota Office of Higher Education with the Get Ready Program before moving into the field of counseling. 

 

Ms. Skaar loves living and working in Saint Paul. She enjoys long walks to Harriet Island and spending time with her husband, daughter, and English Bulldog.
