Greetings and welcome to fifth grade!  I am so excited to be your child’s teacher this year! 

Fifth grade is an exciting year.  Kids tend to show huge cognitive and physical leaps and they are getting ready for greater independence with the transition to middle school on the horizon.  As fifth graders, they are school role models and leaders.   

We have kindergarten buddies and some amazing field trip experiences ahead.  Coming right up will be a trip to Belwin Nature Center and later in the fall we go on our overnight to Eagle Bluff Environmental Center.  Fifth graders can look forward to going to the Minnesota Orchestra, Vertical Endeavors, their last Fun Run and Randy’s Races and a celebratory send off in June, in addition to reading lots of books, sharing our wonderful ideas through writing, and exploring new ideas in math, science, art, music and social studies.  It is a busy and exciting year for sure! 

About Me: 

You may already know me as I have been the Gifted and Talented teacher here at RHS for the past several years.  I am excited to be back teaching fifth graders this year.  They are my favorite age to work with! 

I have been teaching in St. Paul my entire career (28 years—yikes!).  I have taught at Open School, EXPO, Phalen Lake Hmong Studies and Capitol Hill.  I also worked for the SPPS Office of Equity for a number of years as a teacher on special assignment, running the Multicultural Resource Center. 

I am the parent to two teenagers aged 16 and 13 who are also Randolph Heights graduates.  I love this school community and feel fortunate to be able to work here with the students, staff and families. 

My educational philosophy in a nutshell is that school should prepare students to be participants in a democratic society.  Learners need the academic skills and knowledge to make informed decisions and the interpersonal skills to be able to demonstrate collaboration, empathy, kindness and advocacy for positive change.
