Ms. Simmer

Greetings! I am thrilled to be working at Randolph Heights this year as an academic support teacher primarily working with individuals or small groups on reading skills for the upper grades. I have taught for Saint Paul Public Schools for 27 years in a variety of positions as a classroom teacher, academic intervention teacher and a math & literacy coach. I live in Saint Paul with my husband John, and we have two adult children who attended SPPS schools. I am thrilled to work mornings at Horace Mann and afternoons at Randolph Heights.

At Randolph Heights I will be using a program called SIPPS® (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words) -  a research-based foundational skills program proven to help both new and struggling readers in grades K–12. The program’s systematic scope and sequence provides a structured-literacy approach to instruction through explicit routines focused on phonological awareness, spelling-sounds, and sight words. I will be focusing on small group instruction for third, fourth and fifth graders. I will also be teaching math to a fantastic group of 21 third graders.
