Welcome to Mr. Buetow's 4th & 5th Grade

  • We Are Working Hard to Prepare for Ourselves for the 21st Century

Seamless integration of technology is the ultimate goal of a successful 1:1 iPad integration.  In this class we strive to achieve that goal.  In this class, students work on a variety of projects designed to include a variety of academic standards along with key 21st century skills like collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity.  We want our students to be college and career ready and the best way to do that is to make sure that we are giving our students the necessary skills to succeed.

  • Classroom Environent is Key

In order to better achieve competency in 21st century skills, I felt that I needed to create a new set of rules for the classroom.  I removed the desks, limited the number of tables (there arent' even enough chairs for all the students to sit in at once), and instead created a space designed around independence, comfort, choice, and innovation.  By spending significant time at the beginning of the year setting up expectations and repeating routines, we are able to create a classroom where the students self-select where they sit and what order they complete tasks in.

Check out the video below for a quick description of how and why we do this.

Mr. Buetow

Welcome to Mr. Buetow's Class!

I am very excited to be at Randolph Heights again this year and to be getting the chance to teach fourth and fifth graders.  I've had lots of experience with multi-age classrooms and looping, so I am very excited to have a group of fourth and fifth graders.  I'm looking forward to the great year of learning we have ahead of us.
