Leadership Change at American Indian Magnet School
Dear American Indian Magnet School Community,
I hope you are enjoying the last couple weeks of school. American Indian Magnet School Principal Dr. Timothy Brown has informed us that he has accepted a position outside of Saint Paul Public Schools at the completion of this school year. I’d like to thank Dr. Brown for his service over the past five years as a principal to American Indian Magnet School, particularly during our renovation project and the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Brown also taught here during the 1990’s. We wish him all the best in the next steps in his career and professional endeavors.
I’m proud to announce Julie Hutcheson-Downwind as your interim principal for the 2023-24 school year. She has more than 30 years of experience in Saint Paul Public Schools - most at American Indian Magnet School in leadership positions such as a lead teacher, coach, and curriculum integration specialist. She is an enrolled member of the Keweenaw Bay Ojibwe Community in Baraga, Michigan. Principal Downwind is currently a teacher on special assignment working as an Indigenous Curriculum Integration Specialist for the Saint Paul Public Schools Office of Teaching and Learning. Her educational mission as an Indigenous authentic leader is to empower all learners to honor their gifts and excel at who they were meant to be. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from the College of St. Benedict, her Master’s in Education from the University of Minnesota, and her Educational Specialist from Concordia University St. Paul.
