Boozhoo!

I am Julie Downwind, and I am honored to serve as American Indian Magnet School's interim principal.  I am a member of the Keweenaw Bay Ojibwe Community, a mom, a pet parent, and a lifelong educator.  I earned my elementary education teaching degree at the College of St. Benedict, my M.Ed. at the University of Minnesota, and my principal licensure EdSp degree at Concordia University, St. Paul. I have completed my EdD coursework, but still need to complete the dissertation.

I have been a teacher at AIMS since it opened in 1991.  I taught kindergarten and first grade for 28 years, moved to lead teacher at AIMS for three years, and then served last year as SPPS's Indigenous Curriculum Integration Specialist.

I commit to helping students be successful in school while developing as people, encouraging students to pursue their personal aspirations, and ensuring all students learn about Indigenous people accurately highlighting resiliency.
