Ms. Pliego

Hello! Boozhoo! My name is Vanessa Pliego and I am a first-year teacher. I am an EL/LCD teacher for this school year 2023-2024. I am a SPPS alumni, I went to Highland Park Elementary, Hidden River Middle school, and Johnson Sr High School. I graduated in 2016, then I went to Century College and obtained my associate degree in education. I graduated from Century College in Fall 2018. After, I transferred to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and majored in Spanish Studies. I graduated in Spring 2021 with my bachelor's degree. I started my Master's program at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities summer 2022, and graduated with my Master of Education of Second Language Education this year May 2023. I got my license in ESL.

Some information about myself is that I was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. I’ve never moved and lived here all of my life. I come from a family of Mexican immigrants. I am able to speak English and Spanish fluently. I like learning about different languages and cultures from around the world. I didn’t think I was going to be a teacher, because before that I wanted to become a veterinarian, since I love animals. I had amazing teachers during my time in SPPS, where I’ve built a strong relationship with my teachers and am still in communication with them as well. Something that made me want to become a teacher and work in SPPS is because there is so much diversity, where students can build relationships with each other. I wanted to be a teacher because I noticed that there aren't a lot of teachers of color. I want to be a role model for my students and have them see that they are able to be successful in life if they work hard and try their best. I am excited to be working with kids this school year and I hope to build relationships with my students as well. Feel free to contact me with any questions at vanessa.pliego@spps.org.
