Mr. Bresette

Boozhoo!  My name is Jason Bresette and I am the American Indian Studies (AIS) Coordinator and the AVID Coordinator for the Middle School at AIMS.  I began teaching at AIMS in 2011. I have a BA in History and American Indian Studies from UW Madison and obtained my teaching licensure (K-6 license with 5-8 Social Studies) and OLCE (Ojibwe Language and Culture Education) certification from the College of St. Scholastica, where I completed a Master’s Degree in Education and Instruction. I have always taught 6th through 8th grades. This year I will be teaching AVID, In These Times, Peace Makers (formerly WEB) and hopefully some traditional arts. I am very excited to be a part of the community and am looking forward to a fun year.

When not in school I love gardening, eating great food, canoeing, fishing, hunting, playing sports, long boarding, snowboarding and any other outdoors activity. I also love working on my house.

I am an enrolled member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and come from the Red Cliff Indian reservation in northern Wisconsin.  It is actually the most northern point of Wisconsin.   I currently live in Minneapolis with my wife and two daughters.  We are very active and try to live our lives in a healthy way.    Also, just so you know, since I am from Wisconsin, I am a huge sports fan and am bringing a love for all things Packers and Badgers with me.  (Please don’t hold it against me;))

I really love AIMS and the community that is here.  I have always felt welcomed and supported.  Growing up on the reservation I learned that there were many people there for me and they helped me to get to where I am today.  Working at AIMS allows me to feel like I am able to give back and help others reach their full potential.  AIMS has allowed me to see that we need to focus on the present.  We cannot dwell on the past or worry about the future. We can only control the here, the now.  I use the great Master Yoda for inspiration and his words can guide our year this year, "Do or do not.  There is no try." - Yoda
