Welcome! I am Ms. Brittany, the general education Social Worker and Trauma Coach for GAP-Lower. This is my first year at GAP-Lower and with SPPS. The last six years I spent time working in another school district as a special education paraeducator and more recently, as a Positive Behavior Interventionist for the past four years. I am excited to be a part of the SPPS/GAP staff and am looking forward to working with staff, scholars, and families. 

As a social worker, I support the GAP-Lower community by providing academic, behavior, and mental health services and work to promote a positive and equitable school experience for all scholars. As an educator and social worker, I notice scholars sometimes face challenges at school and often benefit from additional support in social emotional learning, developing coping strategies, and practicing general life skills. Support for scholars might include participating in small groups with their peers or individual counseling sessions that are designed to enhance student success and focus on topics such as: cooperation, sharing, self-regulation, problem solving, handling stress, and building self-confidence. I am also available to support scholars in their classrooms, to help take the skills they have learned in small groups or individual counseling and practice applying them in their daily lives and interactions. By being alongside them in the classroom, I can help model and coach scholars through a situation and then reflect with them to provide positive feedback. Additionally, in my role, I try to maximize access to school-based and community-based resources for staff, students, and families.

Outside of GAP, I enjoy walking my dogs, listening to music or audiobooks, cooking/baking, gardening, and other activities outside as long as it's not too hot! I thoroughly enjoy all seasons, except summer.
