Vocal and Instrumental Music

      Vocal and Instrumental Music
  • Music is a vital part of a student's whole education at Global Arts Plus. In music classes, students learn the foundations of music including rhythm, melody, harmony, dynamics, tone color, texture and form. Students then take that foundational knowledge and use it to perform high quality music, create original improvisations, and respond to music from a variety of cultural and historical music traditions.

In addition to a student's core music time at Global Arts Plus beginning in Kindergarten, our school offers students in 2nd – 4th grades and 7th-8th grade the opportunity to participate in choir. Currently, 500 students perform in our three choirs at Global Arts Plus.

At the upper campus,  we offer the following music classes:

    5th Grade General Music

All 5th graders have music class! Students become confident, literate and creative musicians using both voice and a variety of instruments including recorders, xylophones, and drums.  Lessons stem from both the Kodaly philosophy and the Orff-Schulwerk approach and incorperate technology including the use of GarageBand and Quaver!

    Music Explorations

Music Explorations is offered to students in grades 6-8.  Students in Music Explorations interact with music without having to perform on an instrument!  In Music Explorations we look at many different genres and forms of music.  We look at how music is integrated into our society at large.  In class we use buckets, our bodies, and various apps to interact with music.

    Band

Band is offered to students in grades 6-8 in both Beginng and Advanced Band.  All band students learn to play and perform in annual concerts.  We learn by playing music in many different genres and styles (including jazz).  In the spring, the whole band combines to form the Global Arts Plus Marching Band!  We even particpate in the Grand Old Days Parade in St. Paul.  Currenly, we have over 100 students enrolled in our band program! For more information on our band program, please look at Ms. Moyer's page.

Beginning Band is offered to all new band students in 6th – 8th grade.  Students learn the basic skills of playing their instrument and ensemble playing through the use of quality beginning and middle level band literature.

Advanced Band students are challenged to become experts on their instrument both musically and techncially.  Students progress through their study of scales and other technique builders, chorales, and high quality middle level band literature.

    Choir

Choir is offered to students in grades 7 and 8.
