    ¡Bienvenidos!

    Welcome to the Spanish Homepage.

HPMS is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program School (MYP).  We offer Spanish at all grade levels.

Many of our students begin studying a language (Spanish, French, or Chinese) in MYP 1 (grade 6).  This course is for students who have not had an in-depth language class previously.  In Exploratory Spanish,  the focus is on meeting people, asking and answering questions and talking about school.  This course meets every other day for a full year. It is the equivalent of 1 semester of Spanish.

The next level is Level 1a.  Students meet every day for a full year.  Students explore reading, writing, speaking and listening at a slightly more advanced level.   Some of our units are: "In The City," "Family & Friends," &  "Daily routines and activities."

The final level is Level 1b.  Students meet every day for a full year, and receive one year of High School credit for successful completion of this course.  The units of study are:  "My House," "Pastimes," & "Daily routines" and an introduction to talking about the past and using the past tense.  Students also engage in a capstone project, which gives them an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of Spanish after three years of study at HPMS.  Typically, this is a children's book, a board game, or another project, which the student chooses to create.

Students must have a charged ipad for class.  It is also recommended for students and family to check Schoology for updates on daily lesson information, grades and assignments.   Please reach out to our Spanish teacher Senor Springer at matthew.springer@spps.org for further information.
