First things first:  this year in Reader's Workshop, your child will have homework to read for 20-30 min at home each and every day!

Hello!

I am excited to be returning for my 7th year on the staff at Highland Park Middle School this school year, and am honored to be working with the children and families of this wonderful community. This is my 11th year working in St. Paul Public Schools, and my 26th year as a middle school English teacher.  I am originally from Hopkins, MN, and returned to the Twin Cities once my young children began to reach school-age.

I attained a Bachelor of Sciences degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from New Mexico State University.

It is my great pleasure to be given the opportunity to teach Reader's Workshop with our incoming 6th Graders this year.  It is a big year for them, transitioning to greater maturity, responsibility, and self-identity, and navigating the challenges that can come with some of these changes.  I think books and taking agency in building a reading life can often help with these and other transitions that lie ahead.  Mostly, though, I feel extremely fortunate to witness and be part of this sometimes delicate stage, and will always treat students with the same care, respect, and awe at their developing talents and gifts, as I get to know them, that I would want from the teachers of my own children.

I look forward very much to any and all communication, and to a great 2023-24 school year!
