Welcome to a brand new school year!  My name is Melissa Freeman and I teach IB Lang & Lit 7 and OT Literacy 7.  I received a double major in Spanish and Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota.  I later completed a Masters in Education from the University of Minnesota as well.  I began teaching in 2009, and I have only taught at St. Paul Public Schools.  I spent my first five years as a 4th grade teacher at Adams Spanish Immersion School.  I came to Highland Park Middle School in 2015, and I have not looked back! When I am not teaching, you can find me reading books, chasing my toddler and pitbull around the yard, and dreaming of my next travel adventure.   

This year your child will have the opportunity to READ, EXPLORE and WRITE their way through different genres.  Be on the look out for poetry, historical fiction, non-fiction research and character-driven fiction stories.  We are going to have a great year!  Do not be surprised if your student comes home with a backpack full of books.  I like nothing more than getting good books into the hands of my students.
