Shannon Kearney, English Teacher

Hello . . . My name is Shannon Kearney and I have been teaching English in the St. Paul Public Schools since 2000.   I also teach AVID and am the AVID Coordinator for Johnson High School.  I love teaching at Johnson, and I am having a fantastic time getting to know the students in my classes.   I am also very excited about being an AVID Elective teacher this year and know that AVID is going to be fantastic for our students at Johnson High School!

As far back that I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher.  I come from a long line of English teachers and can't imagine doing anything else.  My grandfather taught English, as did my father, and my youngest brother. I now have the privilege of doing the same.   I find it extremely rewarding working with students as they improve their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills throughout the year.  My goal is that all students will leave my class at the end of the year with the skills that they will need to succeed in their next level of learning and in their future careers.

When I have free time, there are many things that I like to do.  Of course, I do love to read, so this is probably my favorite activity.  I also love to make cards, play board games with friends and family, cook, and hang at the park with my dog Stanley. Going to see live music is probably my most favorite thing to do.

The syllabus for each of my classes, as well as our Daily Slides is available on Schoology. If you have questions or concerns that I can help with, the easiest way to reach me is by email at shannon.kearney@spps.org.
