Pronouns of Choice: She/Her/Hers

Fall Semester 2023: This semester I am teaching English 9, English 11, and Public Speaking.

About Me: I have been a Govie since fall of 2009.  Before arriving at Johnson I taught at Northwestern High School in Baltimore, Maryland and Red Lake High School in Red Lake, Minnesota. I have earned my Bachelor's degree from Bemidji State, my Master's in English Education from Johns Hopkins, an additional reading license from Hamline University, and National Board Certification.  I'm proud to be at Johnson! So proud that I, too, live here and am an Eastsider.

Outside of school, I love to play sports. I enjoy softball, kickball, broomball, and weight lifting. If you're an athlete - let me know! I'd enjoy cheering for you! At home, I've got a cat, dog, and lots of fish! I am also a sometimes foster parent. I nerd out over documentaries, board games, and nonfiction books.

About Our Classes: Our classes will be mostly paperless. Everyday you need to have a fully charged iPad, ready to go! Schoology will have all of our assignments listed and numbered. Please let me know immediately when stuck on an assignment so I can help you!

We are readers. We will always be reading something. Sometimes you'll pick freely, other times I'll challenge you to pick outside of your comfort zone, and a few of times a year we'll read a common book as a community.

We are also writers. English is all about the art of communication. Being a good communicator is critical to you having power in your own llife. We will write all the time, and we will work on refining your own powerful voice.

"If people cannot write well, they cannot think well, and if they cannot think well, others will do their thinking for them" - George Orwell
