Mr. Mark Fischbach

The 2023/24 school year will be my seventeenth year teaching at Johnson. I believe that motivating students to learn and maintaining high expectations for learner outcomes are essential in helping students learn mathematics and enjoy their time in school.

Working as a tutor for the America Reads/America Counts program, I have learned ways to recognize the varying degrees of learning abilities of individual students. From these experiences I have learned how to create lessons that not only stimulate, but also accommodate multiple intelligences. Furthermore, these work experiences have given me valuable insight into what a teacher encounters on a daily basis and have been the foundation upon which I have developed my teaching skills.

Academics and participation in extracurricular activities have always been important to me. These activities have shown me that teamwork, dedication, and passion are key life skills that are acquired when participating on a team. Through these life lessons I have developed a desire to coach so that I can instill within my team the value of these life skills. I coached 9th grade football for my first ten years at JHS. Currently, I am coaching the girls’ varsity badminton team.

Participation in a variety of community service projects has been an important part of my high school, college, and present day volunteer work. In high school, I tutored inner city elementary students that were struggling in math and it was during this experience that my desire to become a math teacher was born. In college, I again sought out a volunteer experience that involved tutoring first grade students that needed individualized instruction in math on a weekly basis.

My family has always placed great emphasis on the importance of getting a quality education and the impact that this education can have on a student’s entire life. My parents have each worked in education fields for over 30 years, and it is through their guidance that education became a valuable and influential part of my life. My life experiences, teaching experiences, coaching experiences, and volunteering experiences have prepared me to work with a broad array of students.
