    More Info:

The Knightbots are a team of students from all grade levels who work with teachers and engineer mentors to design and build a robot for entry in the regional FIRST* Robotics competition every spring at the University of Minnesota. The Knightbots' primary sponsor is 3M.

Students on the team learn technical skills in areas such as prototyping, mechanical engineering, computer aided design, computer programming, and electronics. Students also learn non-technical skills such as teamwork, communication, promotion, and networking. Students do not need to have prior knowledge to join the team!

While the game that the robots need to play changes each year, it usually requires the robot to manipulate an object such as a ball or an inner tube and move it to a goal to score points. Robots are radio controlled and usually compete in teams of three. The winning teams progress to a national competition held later in the spring.

Pre-season meetings start in September. This season’s game and kit of parts will be released in early January. We will design, build, and test the robot during six intense weeks in January and February. The regional competition is usually held in early April at the University of Minnesota.

We are always looking for more people to join the team! Please contact any of the teachers listed in the right sidebar box if you have questions.
