• Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA)

What is the MCA?

  • MCA stands for Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment. This is a statewide, annual test that measures achievement on the Minnesota Academic Standards in reading, mathematics, and science. These sets of assessments are required to be administered as part of federal and state legislation.

What is the MTAS?

  • MTAS stands for Minnesota Test of Academic Skills. It is administered –instead of the MCA–to students with significant cognitive disabilities.

    SPPS Online MCAs 2023:

    • MCAs are in person at Obama Elementary, 707 Holly Ave. MN 55104
    • Students can take as long as they need to complete the test. 
    • Testing Times: 10:15 AM to 2:30 PM.

  • Who is expected to take the MCA test?

    All students in grades 3-12 are expected to take the test, unless you submit a Refusal Letter opting out of the test.

     

    How are the results used?

    • Report on student progress towards Minnesota's academic standards
    • Provides diagnostic instructional data for individual students and groups of students
    • Provides a state-wide comparison
    • Instructional decision-making
