My name is Julianne Summers, and I am excited to be a Special Education School Social Worker serving our SPPS Online Middle and High School. This is my 22nd year in St Paul Public Schools, serving online students and families for the last 2.5 years. I really enjoy helping students work on their educational goals and nurturing strong home/school partnerships.

 

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from St Olaf College, and my Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota. I am a multiple language learner (English, German, American Sign Language) and my experiences living abroad and attending classes in a second language give me deep respect for our students, staff and families who are multiple language learners! 

 

In addition to my work at SPPS, I also worked for the Ramsey County Children's Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team, where I had the honor of showing up for youth and families in crisis to listen and advocate for safe and healthy outcomes. I have a strong knowledge of systems in our community (county, medical and mental health care, non-profit) and use that to advocate for students and families. 

 

I am the proud mother of a blended family of 5 adult children and 2 lovable Labradoodles. I have experience in music and dance performance, and love to encourage students to explore their interests and develop outlets for self-expression and self-care. I am also a national and local trainer for a grass roots parent led organization that is working to establish parents as experts in their children's education, so am excited to meet you all so I can listen and learn how to best support the educational hopes and dreams of our students!
