In reading, we will investigate nonfiction literature.  Nonfiction books allow the reader to understand that texts convey new knowledge through diagrams, labels, and other features. We will also make predictions before and during our reading and use the information from the text to confirm or change our predictions.

We are ready to begin Unit 7 next week in Math Workshop. Our class will compare numbers to determine which one is greater or less than the other. They will solve word problems to find the unknown amount. In order to solve the problems, they need to figure out how to use the information provided in the equation. Students need to understand what they know and what they need to solve the problem.

We continue working on our Question-and-Answer writing unit. Learning targets addressed are naming a topic and writing about it. Each student is able to explain a topic with some facts. Students also know where to go to find information about their topic. I am impressed with the variety of subjects students are choosing.

Extra! Extra!

*  Our "star of the week" is Quinn!

*  There is no school for students on Friday, January 26th. It is a professional development day for teachers.

*  I’m am looking for empty paper towel rolls that you would be willing to donate! We need these for our number scrolls we will make in math.
