"Hey, who is the Coach?"

  • Golfing

Hello, Horace Mann community. Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Mark Castillo, the Physical Education Instructor, since the 2010-11 schoolyear. I have been teaching Physical Education, with St. Paul Schools, since 1997. My first 13 years were spent at Roosevelt Elementary, where in addition to teaching Physical Education, I was also the Bus Supervisor, Technology Equipment Manager, and building schedule creator.

I'm extremely fortunate to be teaching at such a great school. The staff is dedicated to the success of the students. The parent involvement is vast. And the students have shown great enthusiasm and commitment, when they come to Physical Education class.

A bit about my background, I hold a Bachelors degree in Kinesiology and Masters degree in Physical Education, from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, as well as a license in Coaching. In addition to teaching Physical Education at Horace Mann, I also am the School Patrol Supervisor and iPad Manager. Outside of school, I am a Baseball coach at Two Rivers High School (formerly Henry Sibley), and have been coaching there since 2006.

When I have free time, I enjoy spending it with my wife, Julia, and my kids Vincent (10th grader) and Vanessa (8th grader), both former Horace Mann students. Depending on the season, I can also be found umpiring adult softball games, or officiating adult broomball games, as well as playing broomball, golf, biking, and baseball.

It has been a great experience at Horace Mann. I look forward to continuing to establishing and strengthening relationships with our school community.
