Welcome from the Principal

  • me

I'm excited about beginning my 17th school year at Horace Mann School and 24th in Saint Paul. I started teaching elementary school students in 1991. I taught fifth graders the longest, but enjoyed Grades 1-8. Elementary schools are the best because we get to teach everything: reading, writing, math, social studies, health, art, science, physical education, social, and emotional learning. We get to teach the whole child! I have a BA in Elementary Education and an MA in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of Saint Thomas. I earned an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Minnesota. I consider myself a lifelong learner.

Outside of school, I have many interests, from reading to golf to hiking in state parks to spending time with family and friends. I'm the father of three adult children, the last of whom will soon finish college. You might see my wife, Janet, and I at a Timberwolves game, a restaurant, or a concert!

Horace Mann School has educated and enriched the lives of Highland Park and Saint Paul residents for 90+ years! Our job is to nourish and develop the student's gifts and talents and we do so with pride.

Our families value our school community, their relationships with staff members, and our dedication to elementary education. We work to meet the needs of children in a safe, caring environment. We foster joy through learning.

If you have a chance to visit Horace Mann School in person,  I am confident you will agree with our families, "Horace Mann School is an elementary school of choice." To arrange a visit and tour of Horace Mann School between November and February, please click here for the on-line tour request form. Outside of those months, please call our school office.
