Welcome to Early Childhood Special Education

  •

Our programs: We have two programs here at Eastern Heights for children in the Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE): 1) ECSE Self-Contained Full Day - for students aged 4 and older who will receive special education services from a licensed teacher, related service providers (speech language therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, school social worker, music therapy teacher, developmental adaptive physical education (DAPE) teacher), and paraprofessionals all within the classroom as much as possible. 2) Inclusive ESCE for those students in our Pre-K classroom which means those students will receive push-in (services in class) services as part of their daily general education curriculum and schedule, depending on the specific needs of their Individual Education Plan (IEP).

For more general information about ECSE please see below:

Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) services are available for students from birth to the age of 5. Services are provided at home, in community daycare and preschool sites, at Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), Head Start, and in SPPS Pre-K classrooms. Specialized classrooms for students ages 3-5 years old are located in every area within elementary school buildings. For information on special education programs for preschool children, please call 651-744-8094.

Note: Every student who meets state eligibility criteria for special education is entitled to a free, appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, 2004).
