Who the heck is teaching my kid?

Hi everyone!

For those who don’t know me, my name is Madison Chadwick (Ms. Chadwick or Ms. Madison, She/her/hers), and I’m one of the 4th grade teachers this year. I’m very excited to get to learn more about our new classroom community and I can’t wait to see old 3rd grade faces from last year!

I live in Saint Paul with my fiancé, our dog and our cat. I love listening to audiobooks, drawing, swimming, and spending time with my family. I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2021 with my Master of Education degree in Kindergarten- 6th Grade. I love teaching 4th grade, and I’m so excited to help the 3rd graders transition to independently learning 5th graders.

How can I support my child at home?

The only regular homework I assign at home is a nightly reading log that I star each day when complete. The best way to support reading at home is to foster a passion for it by giving kids choice in what they read. Helping them find books they’re excited about goes a long way towards increasing their reading motivation and fluency.

In reading we will explore different genres of books and work on our understanding of what we read.

You can help your child with their math fluency by encouraging them to find more than one way to think about problem solving (thinking flexibly), and helping them get faster at math facts like 6x9, 11x7, and so on.

In writing we will strive to write paragraphs that are grammatically correct by journaling daily and increasing writing stamina and spelling skills.

In social studies we center BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) narratives to learn about American history and cultures around the world.

I'm grateful I get to work in such an amazing and supportive community, and I look forward to collaborating with you!

Peace and Love,

Ms. Chadwick
