Laura Nunez is a 5th Grade teacher at Eastern Heights Elementary.  She was born in St. Paul, MN and grew up on the Eastside.   She grew up speaking both English and Spanish at home as a result of her parents who emigrated from Mexico.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, then her Elementary Education credentials from the University of St. Thomas.  She also received her Masters in Education from the University of St. Mary’s.  She began teaching for St. Paul Public Schools in 1994 and has been at Eastern Heights Elementary since 2007.  In her spare time, she enjoys the opportunities to spend time with her extended family, which includes her sister, nieces, nephews and cousins.  She takes pleasure in trying to perfect some the traditional Mexican dishes her mother use to make when she was alive.  

Her parents always encouraged and motivated her to take advantage of the learning opportunities they didn’t have, which led her to become a teacher.  She is thrilled seeing students grown both academically and personally throughout the year.  She also believes that all students are capable of success and that taking advantage of your education is the key to success.  “The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take it away from you.” - B.B.
