Phenology is the study of plants and animals and how they change with the seasons! First graders learn this word and how to observe nature with their five senses to become Phenologists!

Now is the time to catch up on your phenological observations. No matter the season, make sure you are making close observations of what is happening around you.

    • What are the plants doing? What are the animals doing?
    • Is the weather changing?
    • Notice the times of sunrises and sunsets... anything different?

The changing seasons bring about all kinds of interesting opportunities to observe how plants and animals react to the changing seasons.

Pay attention to nature! You may observe animals in migration or hibernation (who is missing during winter months?), or staying active.

Be mindful of looking around, or you may miss the seasonal changes!
