    WELCOME LETTER

    Hello Capitol Hill Families!

The 2020 ski/board season has finally arrived. We hope you and your family will be able to come out and ski or board with us this season.

If you are interested in Ski/Snowboard Club, but don’t know where to start. This letter should help. If you still have questions after reading this letter, please contact:

Please read carefully and call with questions.

    NEW in 2020

    1. All our trips are scheduled for full days when our kids are off of school for conference days or teacher prep days. On these days we are able to get the best rates. The after school Fridays are no longer an option with our later school time this year.

    2. A link to online registration will be sent to our ski/board club email distribution list and posted on our Facebook group.

    3. All students need to ski with a buddy. Please don’t send your student out if s/he doesn’t have anyone with whom to ski or board. We do have adults on the hills who can ski with students that get split from his/her group, but it is more fun and safer for everyone if each student has at least one buddy.

    4. These rates are Afton Alps' and Welch Village's group prices- not Capitol Hill's. This is a discounted rate- a great deal to get your student on the slope.

    5. Parents and other adults are ENCOURAGED to join us. We have a blast and a few parents have even learned to ski with their students.

    6. High School Students- Even if your student has moved on to high school this year, we encourage you to continue to ski/board with us this year. The more bus riders we have, the more we can reschedule.

    7. Lift tickets and bussing will be paid to Capitol Hill PTO (pay online via Paypal). Lessons and rentals are paid directly to the ski area. If you meet us at the resort you must pick up lift tickets within the first hour of the event or call Chris at 651-398-3064

    8. Lessons at Afton Alps are no longer free. They are giving us the same 2-hour group lesson they offer the general public at approximately 50% off which will be $34 per student.

    9. MORE DATES: We may offer two additional dates not on our calendar if we have interest. These trips would be without bussing. Families will be able to meet up at the resort. If we set up a small group pool to buy the individual lift tickets we can get a lower rate. Find more on these dates on the email distribution and Facebook Group.

HERE ARE THE OFFICIAL SKI/SNOWBOARD POLICIES

    TRANSPORTATION

    • Bus rates for 2019 will be $15 per rider for all dates.
    • Students taking the bus must ride the bus both directions unless other arrangements have been agreed to with the coordinator in writing.
    • Students in 6th grade and older may ride the bus on their own. 4th and 5th graders can ride under supervision of an older sibling.
    • Any student can meet the group at the ski area and still participate in the discounted rates if they sign up and pay by the deadlines.

    TIMES

    • On full dates the bus leaves at 8:30 AM and will return at 5:30 PM. Please be at Capitol Hill 15 min prior to departure and return. If there are delays when returning, there will be a post on the Capitol Hill Ski Club Facebook Group.

    CANCELLATIONS

    • Trips may be cancelled if the temp. is below -10F, or if the wind-chill is below-15F, or if it forecasted to rain or the snow gets too slushy. The coordinators will post a cancellation on the Capital Hill Facebook Page, and make every effort to contact parents by email.
    • Rental fees are covered in the schedule
    • Snowboarders will need a picture ID in order to rent snowboard equipment
    • Students can bring food or bring money to purchase food at the chalet.

    STUDENTS IN GRADES 1-5/Siblings/other schools

    • Younger students can come on the bus with an adult. An adult must accompany younger students (grades 1-3)(or a small group of younger kids) at all times.
    • Grades 4 & 5 can ride bus under supervision of an older sibling. It is expected that the older sibling looks after (read: “Skis with”) the younger sibling at the ski area.  If this will not work for your students, we advise not to utilize this option.
    • Siblings/friends from other schools can participate in ski club provided they are in a Saint Paul Public School and have a signed waiver.

    MEDICATIONS

    • Parent/guardian should notify the coordinator and ensure that the student has any necessary medications (e.g., asthma inhaler) with them on ski club days.
    INJURIES

Skiing and snowboarding are dangerous sports.  By purchasing a ticket at the areas we visit, you essentially waive your right to sue for injury.  That being said, it is critical that all students report any injuries to the ski club coordinator the day of the event.  We will enlist the help of ski patrol / call parents as needed.
