Hello! My name is Emily Weiss, and I am a Social Studies teacher here at St. Paul Music Academy. I have been teaching at SPMA for 10 years, previously as a 5th grade teacher. As a social studies teacher I work with multiple grade levels during a prep period that meets two times per week, for 50 minutes each time. Students in my class engage in a curriculum designed for their grade level standards; community/civics, economics, geography and history. We do this through project based learning activities, technology, art, and group work.  We also incorporate themes in cultural exploration and self identity while honoring our diversity here at SPMA. I was born and rasied in St. Paul, MN and am a graduate of St. Paul Public Schools. I recived my undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in Sociology and Political Science and worked for several years in non-profits, before getting hired with SPPS Community Education in 2001. I went back to school to get my teaching license from the College of St. Scholastica. I have 3 kids of my own who keep me very busy! We like to explore different state parks, hike, swim and many other activities.
