St. Paul Music Academy is a multicultural elementary program, in which all students receive music instruction. We teach and model collaborative participation in all subjects and work to put students and community first. In addition to our core curriculum, our students in grades 3-5 may choose additional musical instruction in orchestra, band or choir. Students perform throughout the year, including winter and spring concerts that celebrate the many cultures of our school. We also have classes in science, physical education and social studies that give students variety beyond core academics and musical instruction. Students have hundreds of books to choose from while they visit the school's library. We are also fortunate to have many partnerships with programs such as East Side Learning Center, AmeriCorps and Wilder.  As an Achievement Plus school, we also offer housing and employment assistance, dental care, and other services to students and their families.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

• Kindergarten through 5th grade have 90 minutes of reading each day.
• Kindergarten through 5th have 75 minutes of math each day.
• Each day will include small group instruction time, that includes flexible grouping to make sure all students grasp the learning objectives. 
• WINN teachers provide additional small group instruction for students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade in literacy time. 
• Math and Reading specialists as well as Academic Support teachers help support students in core subjects.
• Specialists include; Science, Physical Education, Social Studies, and General Music.
• Autism classrooms work with students in K-5 and have supports including; Speech, Music Therapy and Adapted P.E.
• Students PreK- grade 5 visit the library weekly to check out books, learn to work with robots and coding, use iPads to access materials and more.
• English Language program works with students in K-5 that are learning English and students new to the country that are part of Language Academy in grades 1-5. 
• Special Education services are available to all students in our building, including supports in Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology and ECSE (Early Childhood).
• Social Emotional supports and resources are available with our Counselors and Social Workers. 
• Community supports of all kinds are available through our partnership with Achievement plus and with our social work and counseling programs.  

MUSIC PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

• All students, Kindergarten through 5th grade, learn how to sing, read music, and to play basic songs on keyboards, guitars, drums and Orff (mallet percussion) instruments.
• All Kindergarten through 2nd grade students receive beginner violin instruction.
• All students in 3rd through 5th grade can choose to participate in Choral, Keyboard, Orchestra or band.
• Performing groups have opportunities to perform around the Metro area.
• The Music Department develops partnerships with many local professional performing groups, so that students can attend several concerts during the school year.
• The Music Department actively pursues funding for special artist residencies throughout the year.
