About Hidden River Middle School

Hidden River Middle School Exterior
  • At Hidden River Middle School (formerly Ramsey Middle School), our goal is to help students gain global perspective. Through our International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), we emphasize the value of teaching students to ask questions and think critically about issues in our school community and the world.

All classes at Hidden River are rooted in IB and engage students in lessons that are relevant to their lives. We offer a continuation of the French Immersion program, serving as the middle school pathway for students from L’Etoile du Nord.

Core academics are enhanced by learning activities and programs such as AVID, band and orchestra, and visual arts. Students participate in student leadership opportunities through WEB (Where Everyone Belongs), National Junior Honor Society, student council, and yearbook committee, and they produce “The Hidden River Show,” a weekly online video. We challenge our young people to recognize their place in society and how they can take action within it.

    International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme

Hidden River Middle School is the first International Baccalaureate-Middle Years Programme (IB-MYP) school in Saint Paul. IB-MYP is based on the fundamental concepts of Intercultural Awareness, Holistic Education, and Communication and helps give our learners a broad, worldview education.

IB helps students participate actively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly interrelated world. Learning how to learn and how to evaluate information critically is as important as learning facts.

    French Immersion

Hidden River is the district's middle level French Immersion program. French Immersion students attend classes taught in French. They also have the opportunity to be mini-monos at Concordia Language Village for younger students.

    Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)

Hidden River was among the first schools in Minnesota to be a certified Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) site. AVID provides help in building skills in the areas of organization, time management, note taking, and test taking. While the program has a target group of students, we have successfully “AVIDized” Hidden River by teaching the use of these skills in all classrooms to enrich our students’ study habits.
