Principal Kristen Longway

  • Principal Longway offers a wealth of experience in helping all students feel represented and accepted for who they are. She has served as an elementary school teacher, instructional coach, literacy connection coordinator, and assistant principal for Frost Lake Elementary School. Ms. Longway understands the importance of collaborating with staff and families and embracing the unique gifts that each child brings.

    Throughout her career, she has created schoolwide systems to improve student achievement, strengthened reading and writing programming, and built relationships between students and staff to create a positive school culture.

    Ms. Longway strives to build strong family partnerships, works toward closing the student achievement gap and ensuring a strong pathway to college and career goals for our students. She is proud to lead the great work here at Battle Creek Elementary School and together with staff, families, and the community ensures that every child has what they need to learn.  

    Ms. Longway has excellent academic qualifications with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Winona State University, a Reading Recovery certificate from Hamline University, a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction and a K-12 Administrative License from the University of Minnesota -- Twin Cities.
