"Differentiated instruction is a teaching philosophy based on the premise that teachers should adapt instruction to student differences.  Rather than marching students through the curriculum lockstep, teachers should modify their instruction to meet students’ varying readiness levels, learning preferences, and interests."

    ~Carol Ann Tomlinson

Saint Paul Public Schools utilizes the Naglieri Non-verbal Ability Test (NNAT2) to identify students who are eligible for gifted and talented services within the school district. All SPPS students in kindergarten and second grade take this test.

Students in grades 1, 3, 4 and 5 may also be nominated to receive special permission to take the test based on their high test scores and outstanding school work. There are also days set aside for non-public and charter school students to take the assessment.

Students who are identified to be gifted and talented are then eligible for gifted/talented services at any St. Paul Public School.
