Welcome to Accelerated 10th Grade English! The goal of Accelerated English 10 is to make students more skilled readers, writers, speakers, and thinkers. We will be reading a variety of literary texts along with selected works of nonfiction, with a strong focus on student choice readings.

Throughout the course of the school year, students will be working to master the writing process, continue to strengthen their reading abilities, and hone their communication skills. Units of study will focus on reading, writing, and thinking in a variety of genres, including non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and texts relevant to media literacy. In addition, students will practice and grow foundation skills, such as organization, vocabulary, grammar, and the utilization of a wide variety of AVID comprehension strategies. Our classroom will work to encourage and provide opportunities for depth of thought, analysis, discussion, and collaboration, particularly around expressing personal beliefs.
