Bachelors Degree in Physics (University of Minnesota Twin Cities) 9-12 Physics Teaching License (University of Minnesota Twin Cities)

Mr. Jacob Hanson

Hello! I am Jacob Hanson, and I am a science teacher here at Como Park. This school year (23/24) will be my third year teaching at Como. I graduated with my Bachelor's in Physics from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities in 2020, where I also received my teaching license and am currently working towards my Master's in Education.

Currently, I am also one of the coaches for the Como robotics team - Team 2855 BEASTBot. We meet on Thursdays in room 1416.

In my free time, I love playing the guitar, running, and suffering as I watch Minnesota Sports teams.

This year, I am teaching Physical Science, Physics, and PLTW Engineering.

Physical Science is a yearlong class that provides an introduction to high school science, mainly focusing on physics and chemistry. The first half of the year will be an introduction to physics, which will cover topics such as motion, forces, energy and work, and many more. The second half of the year will have a chemistry focus, covering atoms, bonds, the periodic table, basic chemical reactions, and more. Students will also learn problem solving skills and further develop their abilities to conduct scientific labs and experiments.

Physics is also a year-long class that will cover a wide range of topics, including motion, forces, energy and work, rotational motion, gravity, electricity and magnetism, and circuits. Students will develop their problem solving skills and ability to conduct labs. We will spend as much time as possible conducting labs and experiments rather than taking notes.

PLTW Engineering is a class that will introduce the concepts of engineering, and explore how engineers solve problems and what tools they use to do so. We will be doing lots of hands-on experiments with awesome technology, such as computer mapping software, VEX kits (which are similar to legos but more science-focused), and 3D printers!

If you ever need to talk, ask a question, or discuss anything, always feel free to send me an email! My emails are Jacob.Hanson@spps.org and Jacob.Hanson@stpaul.k12.mn.us.
