Welcome to 9th Grade English! The goal of English 9 is to make students more skilled readers, writers, speakers, and thinkers. We will be reading short stories and excerpts from a variety of texts, along with selected works of nonfiction, and a strong focus on student choice readings. 

I co-teach 9th grade EL English with our EL Specialist Ms. Strupeck. We have taught together for 5 years in the 9th grade classroom. In addition, I teach General Education English 9.

The course syllabus is attached below on this page and provides more information relevant to the curriculum, grading, and expectations. 

Throughout the course of the school year, students will be working to master the writing process, continue to strengthen their reading abilities, and hone their communication skills. Units of study will focus on reading, writing, and thinking in a variety of genres, including non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and texts relevant to media literacy. In addition, students will practice and grow foundations skills, such as: organization, vocabulary, grammar, and the utilization of a wide variety of AVID comprehension strategies. Our classroom will work to encourage and provide opportunity for depth of thought, analysis, discussion, and collaboration, particularly around expressing personal beliefs.
