School Nurses promote student health and wellness to enhance student learning.  My role is to manage health care during the school day for students with chronic health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, seizures, hearing conditions, ADHD, severe allergies, anxiety, depression and many other conditions.  I will provide emergency care for illnesses and injuries, teach students skills to manage their health, refer health concerns to clinics/physicians, assist families to identify health resources, and cooperate with local health officials and state public health departments in matters pertaining to community health.

    Sports in Middle School:

All students must have a sports physical exam on file with me in order to play sports.  This is NOT the same as a well child exam.

Should you keep your teen home from school due to illness?

Keep your child home if he or she:

    • has vomited or had diarrhea during the night or in the morning
    • has a rash that may be caused by a disease or unknown cause
    • has a fever of 100 degrees or more, today or yesterday

Ordinarily we want students to be in school even if they seem a little tired or irritable in the morning as long as they do not have any of the signs or symptoms listed above.

If student is at home sick, please call the school attendance line daily to report the reason for absence.  651-888-8960.

If your student calls and wants you to pick him/her up from school, please ask your student to visit me.  I can make a brief assessment and contact you, so we can make a decision together about whether or not she/he should leave school, or remain in school.

If a student will be out of school for a significant illness, injury or surgery, the student may qualify for Homebound Services. Please contact me to for more information about this.

Helpful Website: A very helpful website is Saint Paul Public Schools Student Health and Wellness  It contains much health information and will allow you to download health related forms.

Please contact me if you have any questions/concerns about your teen's health!
