Hey there! My name is Troy Asseln, and I teach 7th grade ELA here at Battle Creek Middle. I also proudly coach the Boys Soccer Team. My prounouns are he/him/his.

(My last name is pronounced Ozz-Len, as in the OZZ part of OZZy Osbourne and the LEN part of LENny Kravitz)

I am a 6th generation Minnesotan and a 5th generation St. Paul resident. While initially from Osakis, MN, I moved to St. Paul in 2016 after I finished my undergrad program at the University of Minnesota, Morris. As a musician, I initially moved to the Twin Cities to continue my music career, but after a couple of years I knew my calling was one more directly tied to assisting the immediate community around me. I enrolled in the Masters of Education program at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and gradueated from that in 2019. I earned my Masters Degree in the summer of 2020. I was hired at BCMS almost immediately after graduation, and I couldn't be more excited to be a part of our school and our community.

In my free time I still like to play music, as well as play basketball, soccer, golf, and tinker with cars.
