WINN LITERACY

Hello Battle Creek Families,

This is my second year at Battle Creek Middle School.  I am proud to be a part of this community!  

I have been teaching for 18 years, all of which have been with middle school students in Saint Paul Public Schools.  I have been an English Language Arts educator with 6th, 7th and 8th graders at ALC BESTT, Global Arts Plus, and Parkway Montessori Middle School.  In my classroom, I use my experience with arts integration, restorative practices, and secondary Montessori education to facilitate our literacy learning environment.   

I am entering my third year as a WINN Literacy teacher with a program called SIPPS (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words).  This new literacy program in our district offers strong supports to be sure that all students get the foundational reading skills they need to be able to be confident and curious learners.  

My goal is to help all middle school students find confidence and empowerment in learning about themselves and the world around them.  We do this through reading, writing, and speaking together.  We talk every day about how we can advocate for ourselves and each other.  I believe that we can learn something new every single day; everyone can be a student and everyone can be a teacher!
